This term we made mini museums. We looked at the work of Joseph Cornell and Kurt Schwitters, and also at the idea of a Cabinet of Curiosities. We started by looking at collections and we made our own collection of natural and found objects, including stones, feathers and shells.
We practiced drawing the objects and looked at ways we could make our drawings more interesting by varying the type of marks used and what we draw with (pens, pencils, charcoal etc).
Everyone then started with a box which they then painted, collaged and added shelves and matchboxes. The children then made objects with clay, buttons, beads and wire to go in their museums. The finished museums look wonderful!
